Marino Sorrento Burl Wood Music Box — Violin Marquetry, Santa Lucia
Hand-crafted in Sorrento, Italy by Marino, this octagonal jewelry and music box represents the finest tradition of Sorrento intarsia woodworking. The exterior is veneered in figured olive burl — swirling amber grain punctuated by dark burr eyes — trimmed at the lid seam with a crisp ebonized band. The lid carries a marquetry composition of a violin resting across an open sheet of music, framed by a scrollwork border inlaid in contrasting lighter wood. Six gold-tone bun feet support the base. Inside, a felt-lined jewelry compartment sits beside a glazed panel concealing the spring-wound cylinder movement. Labels on the base confirm hand-crafted Sorrento origin; a secondary label identifies the tune as Santa Lucia.
CONDITION Very Good. Tested and fully functional — the movement winds and plays cleanly. Gentle signs of use consistent with age; no remarkable damage to the marquetry, finish, or hardware.
