Le Creuset Flame Cast Iron Dutch Oven — Made in France, Size E, c. 1980s
Le Creuset’s round French oven in signature Flame enamel over cast iron, bearing the circular foundry stamp “LE CREUSET / E / MADE IN FRANCE” on the base. The letter “E” is Le Creuset’s legacy size designation for the ~24cm / 4.5 qt round cocotte — part of an older marking system the company used before switching to numeric diameter stamps. Three physical details date this piece to French production of the 1980s: the flat unenameled cast iron base characteristic of that decade, the three concentric ring logo introduced by Le Creuset in 1972, and the Classic-series black phenolic knob. The cream sand interior, concentric-ring lid, and orange loop handles complete the picture of a workhorse cocotte from Le Creuset’s French golden era.
CONDITION
Good — this pot has been cooked in regularly and it shows. Exterior Flame enamel is vibrant overall, with noticeable chipping at the rim flange and on the handle bases exposing bare cast iron. The cream interior carries dense utensil scratching and dark heat staining across the base; structurally intact and fully functional.
