Serulla & Son Capodimonte-Style Lady with Borzoi, Italian for Charles, 1980s
Tall hand-painted figural sculpture of an elongated mannerist beauty mid-stride with her Borzoi at heel — a slim coral-pink bias-cut gown with feathered handkerchief hem, wide-brimmed picture hat, black opera gloves, evening pouch, and pendant necklace, all rendered in the high-gloss Capodimonte-revival idiom popular with Italian decorative-figurine houses through the 1970s–80s. The stylized proportions and theatrical Deco-revival dress draw directly on the visual language of Giuseppe Armani and Vittorio Tessaro, whose "Lady with Borzoi" compositions defined the genre.
Mounted on a turned and stepped hardwood plinth. Underside retains the foil maker's label for Serulla & Son, Inc., Eatontown NJ — Made in Italy for Charles, alongside inventory labels reading "1790," "#1," and "San Franc." Serulla & Son operated as a New Jersey importer of Italian decorative arts, commissioning figural work from Italian studios for the U.S. luxury gift market.
CONDITION
Excellent overall with vivid paintwork, intact figure and dog, and no remarkable damage observed. Glossy finish presents cleanly with no chips or losses noted to the resin. Wood base shows light handling wear consistent with display.
