Marin San Rafael Hybrid Bicycle, Tange Cr-Mo, Shimano Alivio, c. Late 1990s

Marin San Rafael hybrid commuter bicycle from the late 1990s, built on a Tange Custom triple-butted Cr-Mo tubeset produced exclusively for Marin and finished in metallic silver with deep blue "Marin" downtube graphics, "San Rafael" top tube script, and the "Marin Cr-Mo Rock Star" seat tube decal. Introduced in Marin's 1998–1999 catalogs as the brand's entry-level flat-bar fitness/commuter, the San Rafael bridged the road and mountain lines and shipped from the factory with a Shimano Alivio drivetrain — a mid-tier trekking group regarded as a workhorse for daily-mileage riders. This example carries the Shimano Alivio triple crankset and Alivio rear derailleur with a 7-speed freewheel, GripShift twist shifters, dual caliper rim brakes, Marin 6061 alloy flat handlebars (with Marin "California Bear" stem cap graphic and "Marin 6061 Alloy" bar end stamps), Marin-branded grips and saddle, and Araya Japan PX-635 700C alloy rims wearing 700x35C tires. The head tube retains its original Tange Custom Tube Set decal and U.S. flag accent, and a chrome bottle cage is mounted to the down tube.

Lot includes the bicycle as shown with frame-mounted bottle cage. Supplemental images depict accessory items (Blackburn saddle bag, Serfas padded gel seat cover, Bell L-XL gloves, multi-tool, chain tool, and Delta 101 jumbo storage hooks) for reference only.

CONDITION

Very Good operational condition and ready to ride — tires hold air, drivetrain shifts and brakes function as intended. Drivetrain shows light oxidation and accumulated grime on the freewheel, chain, and Alivio rear derailleur cage consistent with regular use. Frame paint shows light scuffing and minor scratches, and the saddle has surface creasing and light wear to the vinyl top.
