Jim Deardorff Hand-Turned Bark-On Vessel
Hand-turned bark-on vessel by New Mexico woodturner Jim Deardorff, worked from a single section of branchwood with the original lenticel-flecked bark retained around the full circumference. The lid pivots open on a concealed pin hinge set into the rim, an unusual construction detail that keeps the silhouette of the log uninterrupted when closed. Cut faces reveal tight concentric growth rings and a warm honey tone that plays against the dark, weathered exterior.
Underside inscribed in ink "Jim Deardorff" with copyright mark and dated 1991–2000, alongside a secondary inscription at center reading. Deardorff's bark-on vessels are sought among regional collectors of studio woodturning for their disciplined wall thickness and respect for the natural form of the log.
CONDITION
Excellent. Bark is firmly adhered around the full circumference, the concealed pin hinge operates smoothly, and the turned interior is clean with no checking or splits noted.
