Galway Irish Lead Crystal Ships Decanter — Diamond & Wedge Cut, Mushroom Stopper
A Galway Crystal ships decanter executed in the maker's signature deep diamond field over a tall flared neck and broad weighted base, finished with a faceted mushroom stopper. The wide-bottomed ships form was originally designed to resist tipping at sea — a Georgian innovation revived by Irish cut-glass houses in the twentieth century — and the heavy lead crystal here delivers the prismatic fire that built Galway's reputation alongside Waterford and Tyrone.
Founded in Galway, Ireland in 1967, Galway Crystal became one of the country's three principal lead crystal houses, with each piece hand-cut by trained craftsmen using techniques passed down from the Anglo-Irish cutting tradition. The underside is script-etched "Galway Crystal" and finished with a deeply cut radiating starburst, both hallmarks of the firm's authenticated work.
CONDITION
Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or cloudiness noted. Cuts remain crisp throughout the diamond field and base starburst, and the crystal rings clear when struck; stopper seats properly in the neck.
