Pierre Forssell Gense "Pyramide" Salt & Pepper Shakers, Sweden c. 1955
Pair of conical "Pyramide" salt and pepper shakers designed by Pierre Forssell (1925–2004) for Gense of Sweden, introduced circa 1955 and produced as part of the firm's celebrated Scandinavian modern tabletop program. Each shaker is spun from 18-8 stainless steel and seated on a turned black bakelite base, with Forssell's hand-cut script "S" and "P" engraved into the body — the taller cone marked "S" for salt, the shorter for pepper. Underside marks read "GENSE 18-8 STAINLESS SWEDEN BY Forssell" in the designer's facsimile signature.
Forssell joined Gense in 1955 and went on to lead the company's design program, becoming one of Sweden's most decorated metalworkers alongside contemporaries Sigurd Persson and Folke Arström. The Pyramide form is among his most reproduced and exhibited designs and appears in the permanent collection of the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm.
CONDITION
Very Good overall. Light surface scratches consistent with use are visible on the polished steel under raking light, with faint patina at the pour holes. Bakelite bases are sound and intact with minor edge rubs.
