Description

Chase Art Deco Chrome & Red Bakelite Ice Bucket and Hors d'Oeuvres Tray

A streamlined two-piece cocktail service in polished chrome with cherry-red Bakelite fittings, attributed to the Chase Brass & Copper Co. of Waterbury, Connecticut. The banded cylindrical ice bowl holds a clear glass insert and rises between twin folding stirrup handles tipped in turned Bakelite balls — a signature Chase detail seen across the Walter Von Nessen and Russel Wright designs of the early 1930s. The octagonal four-compartment relish tray repeats the geometry, anchored by a faceted Bakelite finial that doubles as a lift handle.

Chase's "Specialty Catalog" of 1934–1936 popularized this Machine Age vocabulary for the home bar, putting designer modernism within reach of the middle-class hostess. Pieces are typically unmarked or carry only the Centaur stamp underneath, consistent with this set.

CONDITION

Good overall with bright reflective chrome and intact Bakelite fittings throughout. Light utensil wear and minor surface scratches across the tray compartments; glass insert clear and free of chips.
