Borzoi Sighthound Bronze Sculpture, Art Deco Era
Cast bronze figure of a standing borzoi with head raised and tail curled, the long body and feathered coat rendered in deeply incised linear striations across flank, chest, and haunch. Rich dark patina with golden bronze highlights to the high points and scattered verdigris speckling consistent with age. Marked #82 on the underside. The figure does not stand independently and shows no integral plinth, consistent with Art Deco–era animalier bronzes originally mounted to a marble or onyx base — comparable examples from the 1920s–1930s by makers such as Hagenauer and continental foundries appear regularly with rectangular stone bases secured by a single underside threaded post or adhesive mount.
CONDITION
Good condition with attractive aged patina. Surface shows minor verdigris flecking on the body and at one rear paw, with light wear to the high points exposing brighter bronze. The figure is not free-standing without support and was likely originally affixed to a marble base, now absent.
