Warren Platner for Knoll Rosewood Side Table, Black Wire Base, 1970s
Warren Platner side table produced by Knoll Associates in the 1970s, featuring the designer's signature hourglass-form base of vertical welded steel rods in a black finish — a period variant distinct from the more commonly seen nickel-chrome production. The round top is veneered in richly figured rosewood with a pronounced cathedral grain and warm amber-to-mahogany tones under a high-gloss finish. A partial Knoll International paper label (320 Park Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10022) is present on the underside, confirming maker attribution. The 320 Park Avenue address places production to the period when Knoll operated under that address, consistent with 1970s manufacture.
CONDITION
Good. The rosewood veneer top shows scattered surface scratches and a visible gouge, as documented in supplemental reference photographs. The black-finish wire base displays age-appropriate patina and oxidation build-up along the interior base ring at the floor level.
