Ekornes Montana Teak & Cream Leather Three-Seat Sofa, Norway

Three-seat sofa by J.E. Ekornes A/S, Ikornnes, Norway, bearing its original factory label to the frame: "EKORNES — J.E. EKORNES A/S — N-6222 IKORNNES — MADE IN NORWAY." The Montana is among the most architecturally resolved of the Ekornes hardwood-frame seating lines — a deliberate counterpoint to the recliners for which the firm became famous. The frame is built from solid teak: cylindrical stile caps, angled back posts, and radius-cornered legs joined with exposed bolt hardware in the Scandinavian craft tradition. Three independently suspended, channel-stitched seat and back cushions in full-grain cream leather are finished with matching self-piping and retain full loft, conforming generously to the body without collapsing. The reclined angle of the back posts — a characteristic of the Montana — gives the sofa an unhurried, low-slung stance that reads as relaxed without sacrificing structure. Ekornes Montana examples with intact teak frames and original leather in this colorway are increasingly hard to find in this condition.

CONDITION

Very Good overall — frame solid and tight, all hardware flush, cushions at full loft. The cream leather shows light surface crazing across the seat faces consistent with age and use, and a small dark mark is visible to one seat cushion; a darker stain appears on the top cap of one front post, with minor scattered scuffs elsewhere on the teak. No tears, no delamination, no structural issues.
