Giuliano Tosi Murano Sommerso Vase, Multicolor Cane & Block Form
Substantial sommerso vase signed "Giuliano Tosi" in diamond-point script on the polished underside. Giuliano Tosi (b. 1942) is a Murano-trained maestro who worked at Vetreria Artistica Ferro Toso before establishing his own studio; his work is characterized by deeply layered color masses encased in thick optically clear glass, precisely the vocabulary on display here. This piece presents a softened-rectangle block profile with an asymmetric oval rim — a form consistent with Tosi's output from the 1970s onward. Within the clear matrix, sweeping color fields of aqua blue, ruby red, and olive green are anchored by a dark amber-brown core, with a fan of slender cane rods — alternating brown and pale green — suspended upward through the center. The interplay of refracted light through the casing shifts dramatically with viewing angle, moving from near-black at the base to luminous translucency at the rim.
CONDITION
Excellent overall; seller reports minor shelf wear to the polished base, consistent with normal display use. Glass body presents bright and clear, free of chips, cracks, or internal fractures visible under inspection. Surface scratching to the base rim is light and does not affect the viewing faces.
