Channel Master 6520 "Super Fringe" 8-Transistor AM Table Radio
A cordless AM broadcast table radio by Channel Master of Ellenville, New York — model 6520, manufactured in Japan and marketed under the brand's premium "RF Stage Super Fringe" designation, indicating an enhanced-sensitivity front-end circuit engineered to pull in weak or distant stations. The two-tone molded plastic cabinet pairs a cream textured grille panel with a warm brown case raised on four canted splayed feet — a silhouette squarely of the late-1950s to early-1960s Japanese transistor table radio idiom. The chromed front fascia carries embossed "8 Transistor Cordless Channel Master" lettering flanking a backlit tuning dial scaled in kilocycles from 540 to 1600, with an H/L tone slide switch at center and separate tuning and volume knobs. Side panels carry an external antenna jack and an ear/external speaker jack; the rear battery compartment retains its original door.
A handwritten service and battery-change log taped inside the battery compartment documents household use dates running from December 1976 through January 1993 — a span of nearly seventeen years of documented active use well past the radio's manufacture date, adding a quietly humanizing thread of ownership history.
CONDITION
Fair overall; displays well at a distance with the chromed dial panel, RF Stage Super Fringe badge, and textured grille all intact, and the battery compartment free of corrosion with its original door present. Specific flaws include specks of scattered paint overspray across the top of the cabinet, scuffing and light surface scratching to the brown case sides. Powers on but could not be successfully tuned during testing; sold as a non-working display piece.
