Hand-Carved Malachite Frog Figurine with Banded Green Patterning
A solid malachite carving in the form of a seated frog, worked from a single piece of the copper-carbonate mineral. The stone displays the deep emerald-to-blackish-green banding characteristic of malachite, with concentric botryoidal patterns swirling across the polished surface — particularly pronounced along the flanks and underside, where the cut reveals the mineral's distinctive layered growth structure. The carver has rendered the frog in a crouched, poised attitude, with simplified features and rounded haunches that follow the natural contours of the rough.
Malachite carvings of this scale make popular pocket pieces, desk accents, and small additions to mineral and figurine collections. The polish brings up strong chatoyance in the banding, and the weight in the hand reads as genuine stone rather than composite.
