San Diego & Arizona Railway 1919 Carriso Gorge Route Map Framed
Framed and matted display featuring a detailed San Diego & Arizona Railway route map, highlighting the historic “Short Line to California.” The map is marked “Upon Completion 1919” and illustrates the railway route from San Diego through Tijuana, Tecate, Campo, and Carriso Gorge to the Imperial Valley and Salton Sea region, with additional connections toward Yuma. Often referred to as the “Impossible Railroad,” the SD&A line was built under the direction of San Diego entrepreneur John D. Spreckels and became famous for its dramatic passage through the rugged mountains and deserts of Southern California and northern Baja California.
The map features period-style typography, a scenic Carriso Gorge vignette, a railway elevation profile chart, and route markings for the San Diego & Arizona Railway and connecting lines. Presented framed and matted behind glass, the display also includes two colorful railroad emblems: a San Diego Short Line to California badge and a Yuma & Western Railroad Co. Short Line to the Pacific emblem, enhancing its historical railroad memorabilia appeal. A striking decorative piece for collectors of railroad history, Western Americana, or San Diego regional history.
Condition:
Good condition, as shown. The print displays well with light toning and minor marks consistent with age. Frame, matting, and glass present nicely and are ready for display. Please review photos carefully for details.
