A sculptural lidded casserole from Nambé Mills of Santa Fe, New Mexico, cast in the proprietary eight-metal alloy that defines the line — silver-bright, heavier than it looks, and engineered to hold temperature at the table long after it leaves the heat source. The form is confident mid-century studio work: a round-oval body with softly upswept handle wings that mirror the lid's own tab handles, the two halves nesting into a single continuous silhouette when closed. The underside carries the stamped mark "nambe 22" along with the original gold instructional care label, still adhered — a detail that places this piece firmly in the earlier production run before Nambé shifted to later label formats.
Nambé Mills was founded in 1951 in the village of Nambé, roughly twenty miles north of Santa Fe, and built its identity on this proprietary alloy — developed to pour like silver, perform like cast iron, and display like sculpture. The piece transitions from oven to broiler to stovetop to table without a trivet; the lid inverts to function as a shallow oval serving tray. The No. 22 casserole is among the most recognized forms in the Nambé catalog and remains one of the more sought-after pieces from the studio's first two decades.
CONDITION
Good. Surface scratches and light scuffs throughout, consistent with regular kitchen use; the original luster remains intact but is dulled in spots, most notably across the exterior of the lid and the interior floor of the bowl. Original Nambé gold care label present on underside with some yellowing and edge wear. We'll leave the polishing to you.
