Description

1960s Mattel Barbie & Skipper Doll Lot with Ponytail Case, Mattel-Tagged Fashions & Accessories

A substantial early-1960s Mattel Barbie and Skipper collection assembled around the iconic 1961 Ponytail red vinyl doll case. The lot includes a bubble-cut Barbie (marked to the rear hip) and a straight-leg Skipper (marked "Skipper © 1963 Mattel Inc." to the lower back), shown wearing a black sheath with sheer collar and a red double-breasted Skipper dress respectively. All clothing pieces carry confirmed Barbie ® by Mattel or Skipper T.M. © Mattel Inc. woven garment tags.

Wardrobe spans the full early-'60s lifestyle range: formal gowns (pink satin with silver bodice, white tulle bridal-style with veil), velvet opera capes in red and magenta, brocade evening coat with fur trim, ribbon-trim straw garden hat, grass hula skirt, paisley robe, striped hooded knit, polka-dot sheath, tulle ballerina tutus, gingham tops, ice skates, gloves, gauntlets, and a tartan weekender bag. Accessories include a stack of red and blue plastic Mattel hangers, pink hair curlers, a pink hand mirror and brush, a Skipper Junior Edition Mattel fashion booklet, and an assortment of open-toe heels and flats in red, white, blue, green, and black.

CONDITION

Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Both dolls feel slightly tacky to the touch — a common condition with early-1960s Mattel vinyl. Skipper's hair is frizzed and disarranged; Barbie's bubble cut is intact. Garments show light soil, minor staining, and softening of fabrics; the pink coat has a small mark to the front. Case vinyl is bright with scattered scuffs and light surface scratches.
