Currier & Ives Gold Foil Pastoral Scenes — Framed Pair
A decorative pair of pastoral scenes printed on gold foil in the manner of nineteenth-century American lithography. The upper image depicts a drover and his dog leading cattle across a shallow stream before a clapboard farmhouse framed by mature trees; the lower scene shows a stone-bridge crossing beside a water-powered gristmill with a church steeple rising through the foliage beyond. Both compositions echo the rural Currier & Ives visual tradition that defined American parlor decoration through the late Victorian era.
The prints are presented together under glass, double-matted in charcoal and gilt-edged liners, and housed in a gold-finished frame with reeded sight edge and rope-twist inner molding. The gold-foil ground gives both images a warm metallic luminosity that reads beautifully against the dark mat. Ready to hang as a vertical pair.
CONDITION
Very Good. No damage noted; presentation is clean behind glass with bright foil ground and crisp printed detail. Frame shows only minor handling wear to the gilt finish.
