Bob's Big Boy 42" Cast Aluminum Restaurant Advertising Statue

Pompadour set, burger raised, checkered overalls crisp — this is the figure that greeted three generations of American diners under the glow of a coffee-shop sign. Standing a substantial 42 inches tall in hollow cast aluminum with vibrant hand-painted finish, this Bob's Big Boy advertising statue captures the chain's enduring mascot in his classic pose: left fist on hip, right arm extended skyward with the famous double-decker hamburger. The figure is mounted to an integral aluminum base with cast mounting tabs at each corner, allowing secure anchoring for indoor or outdoor display. The underside of the hollow base reveals the figure's internal armature channels — two leg cavities running up through the body — consistent with the industrial casting method used for large-format restaurant advertising statuary.

The Big Boy character debuted in 1936 at Bob Wian's Glendale, California drive-in — reportedly inspired by a chubby regular customer — and was eventually franchised to regional operators under names including Frisch's Big Boy (Cincinnati), Shoney's (Southeast), Elias Brothers (Michigan), and JB's Big Boy (Mountain West), each adapting the mascot to their own markets. CONDITION

Very Good overall. Paint remains vibrant and attractive throughout with light scuffing, minor surface wear, and handling marks consistent with age and display use. The hollow cast aluminum body is solid and structurally sound; mounting tabs at the base corners show oxidation and surface rust consistent with the material and outdoor use history.
