1920–1963 Canadian Small Cent Collection

Forty-one Canadian one-cent coins spanning four decades and three monarchs — George V, George VI, and Elizabeth II — assembled in a Whitman No. 9062 folder and struck entirely at the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa. The George VI run is the heart of this collection: every date from 1937 through 1952 is present, including two of the most historically significant coins in 20th-century Canadian numismatics. The 1947 Maple Leaf cent — struck in 1948 with a small maple-leaf privy mark after the date, a workaround issued while new dies were prepared following Indian independence — sits alongside the 1948 "ET IND. IMP. OMITTED" cent, the first Canadian coin to drop the Emperor of India title from the obverse legend, a direct consequence of Indian independence in 1947. Together they mark one of the clearest numismatic records of the end of the British Empire. The Elizabeth II run fills 1953 through 1962, with a hand-inked "1963" notation suggesting a collector still actively building when the folder went quiet.

The George V section is where the gaps become part of the story. The low-mintage semi-keys — 1922 (1,243,903 struck), 1923 (1,019,160), 1924 (1,596,388), 1925 (1,000,360), 1926 (2,145,920) — are absent, as they are from most assembled folders; those dates were never affordable fillers. What is present — 1920, 1921, 1927 through 1930, 1932 through 1936 — gives a collector a working George V foundation to build from. The 1936 Dot port is vacant and correctly marked RARE on the folder; that coin belongs in a specialist auction at a very different price point. ⚑ Die varieties including the 1953 No Shoulder Fold and the 1947 Pointed/Blunt 7 have not been attributed — buyers with a loupe will want to look closely.
