Antique European Cavalry Trooper's Sword with Leather-Covered Scabbard, "E.U.B." Marked
A military trooper's cavalry sword of late 19th to early 20th century European pattern, fitted with a heavy steel sheet-metal half-basket guard, checkered black grip secured by three rivets, and a slightly curved single-edged steel blade with central fuller. The pommel terminates in a small upturned quillon finial at the knuckle bow, and the guard bears the maker or unit cartouche "E.U.B." in chased serifed lettering on the bowl exterior.
The sword is housed in its original leather-covered wooden scabbard with iron throat, two suspension ring bands, and a steel drag. The leather retains its full wrap with visible stitching along the seam, and the iron mounts show even surface oxidation consistent with long storage. The form follows the general lineage of cavalry trooper's swords issued across continental European armies in the decades flanking the turn of the 20th century — a transitional era when mounted units carried these blades as much for ceremony as for combat.
CONDITION
Good. Scuffing, oxidation, and age-appropriate wear throughout. Crack to the handle. Blade surface shows uneven patina with light pitting toward the tip; scabbard leather is intact with scuffs and surface wear. Blade is not sharp.
