Vintage Cast Brass Goose Sculpture, Mid-Century Decorative
A substantial cast brass goose figure standing alert with neck arched and head turned forward. The body is hollow-cast in warm yellow brass with hand-finished detailing — incised cross-hatching defines the folded wings and tail feathers, while the head shows shaped eyes, nostrils, and a softly modeled bill. The webbed feet are cast as flat plinths integrated with the legs, giving the piece a stable, sculptural footprint.
Decorative brass waterfowl of this scale were a fixture of 1960s–1980s American interiors, produced largely in India, Korea, and Hong Kong for the U.S. import market and sold through department stores and decorator showrooms. The size and presence of this example — nearly eighteen inches tall and weighing over eight pounds — place it at the upper end of the category, suited to a hearth, console, or garden room.
CONDITION
Good. Brass shows oxidation and tarnish throughout, with green verdigris concentrated along the feet, lower legs, and underside. Surface spotting and patches of darker tone across the body and neck. We'll leave the polishing to you.
