Hummel "Band Leader" Figurine #129, M.I. Hummel Goebel West Germany
A classic M.I. Hummel figurine produced by Goebel of West Germany, "Band Leader" (model #129) depicts a young conductor mid-performance — coat tails flying, baton hand raised, the other gesturing toward the orchestra as he leads from an open score atop a music stand. The boy wears a green tailcoat, salmon trousers, and an oversized red bow tie, with the open songbook resting on a turned pedestal lectern beside him. The detailed underglaze painting, soft modeling of the face, and matte-finished base are hallmarks of the Hummel tradition first established by Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel's original drawings.
The underside is incised "129" with the Goebel maker's mark and "Germany" impressed into the base. "Band Leader" was introduced into the Hummel line in the 1930s and remained in production through multiple trademark periods, making this a recognizable centerpiece for any Hummel collection focused on the musical figures series.
CONDITION
Good. No damage noted; the figurine presents cleanly with crisp painted detail and an intact baton hand, music stand, and bow tie. Light age-appropriate wear to the matte base.
