Pair of Hummel "Singing Lesson" Goebel Porcelain Candy Dishes, W. Germany
A matched pair of Goebel Hummel lidded porcelain candy dishes featuring the beloved "Singing Lesson" motif — a tousle-haired boy seated with accordion, head tilted back in song as a small bluebird perches on the bellows and joins in. Each figural finial is hand-painted in the soft Hummel palette: orange polka-dot neckerchief, sage-green jacket, striped trousers, and rosy cheeks. The cream-glazed bowls are oval-form with fitted lids, designed as bonbonnières for the dressing table or sideboard.
Marked III/110/0 to the underside of the lid with the full bee in V backstamp and "Western Germany" mark to the base — placing production in the 1960s–early 1970s. Mold number 111/110 corresponds to the Goebel "Singing Lesson" candy box, a sought-after form among Hummel collectors for combining a functional vessel with a full figural finial.
CONDITION
Good overall with shelf wear. One finial has a chip to the boy's hair that has been touched up; both bowls and lids are otherwise intact with hand-painted detail remaining bright. Light surface wear consistent with display age.
