Antique Hand-Hammered Copper Cazo Basin with Rolled Rim
A substantial hand-hammered copper basin of traditional cazo form, with gently flaring sides rising to a wide, outward-rolled rim and a flat recessed base. The body is raised from a single sheet of unmarked copper, the planishing marks still legible across the underside where the warm metal catches the light. A small applied loop at the back of the rim allows for wall display, suggesting a second life as a decorative piece after years of working service.
Vessels of this type were workhorses across Mediterranean, Mexican, and Middle Eastern kitchens — used for rendering, candy-making, dyeing, laundry, and bathing depending on region and household. The interior retains heavy mineral residue and verdigris bloom consistent with long use over open flame or with acidic contents; the exterior has been cleaned at some point to reveal the warm copper glow beneath. .
CONDITION
Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Dings and dents are present across the body with no punctures or holes. Interior shows heavy verdigris and mineral deposits from working use; exterior retains a warm cleaned copper surface with scattered surface marks.
