Stanley Bailey No. 5 Jack Plane & Antique No. 3 Smoothing Plane, Pair
A working pair of cast iron bench planes from the American woodworking tradition. The larger of the two is a Stanley Bailey No. 5 jack plane, identified by the orange "STANLEY" badge on the lateral adjustment lever and the "No 5" casting on the heel of the body. The toe carries the "BAILEY" casting and "MADE IN U.S.A." mark, dating it to mid-twentieth-century production. Rosewood-stained tote and front knob are intact, and the iron, chip breaker, and lever cap remain properly assembled.
The smaller plane is an antique No. 3-size smoothing plane. Original red-stained beechwood tote and knob carry honest shop wear, the cast iron body shows uniform oxidized patina, and the brass depth adjuster remains functional. Both planes are sold together as a usable matched working pair — the jack for stock removal and flattening, the smoother for finish passes.
CONDITION
Fair overall with signs of light use throughout. One shows damage with a section of cast material absent. Both totes and knobs are present and secure. Surface patina, light oxidation, and finish wear consistent with working tools of their age.
