Sue Gross Studio Pottery Ceramic Wall Pocket Flower Frogs, Pair
A pair of hanging wall pocket flower frogs by studio potter Sue Gross, each stamped on the verso. Both pieces are wheel-thrown stoneware with a single hanging hole at top and three openings at the upper face for dried or fresh stem arrangements. The smaller of the two carries a bold spiraled slip motif in iron-brown against a speckled oatmeal ground, finished with an exposed terracotta rim. The larger displays a radiating chrysanthemum-like burst in mottled brown against a creamy speckled glaze, the pattern blooming outward from a dense central node.
Wall pockets in this form bridge studio ceramics and floral display, designed to hold short stems flush against a wall. Both pieces are signed with the impressed SUE GROSS maker's stamp on the reverse.
CONDITION
Good overall. The blue/spiral piece has a chip to the verso that is concealed when hung. The green/floral piece shows calcium deposits across the glazed face as pictured, along with minor nicks at the rim of one opening.
