Scandinavian Studio Art Glass Vase with Applied Black Glass Coil Banding
A sculptural clear art glass vase with a flared trumpet rim tapering to a cinched waist, then expanding gently toward a heavy polished base. The defining feature is a band of applied black glass coils wrapped freehand around the narrowest point of the vessel — a gestural, asymmetrical detail consistent with Scandinavian studio glass tradition. The thick base displays the characteristic concentric rings of a polished pontil.
Unmarked. The form and execution are consistent with late 20th-century Scandinavian studio production — the restrained palette, the weight of the clear body, and the controlled spontaneity of the black coiling all point to that tradition. The contrast of heavy clear glass against the slim black ribbon creates strong sculptural presence whether displayed empty or holding a single dramatic stem.
