Description

1950s Westinghouse Aqua-Interior Refrigerator, Model OP10

A sculptural survivor from the postwar American kitchen, this Westinghouse single-door refrigerator pairs a creamy white enameled steel exterior with a soft aqua-and-celadon two-tone interior — the kind of color play that quietly defined mid-century domestic design. The rounded shoulders, polished chrome latch handle with the red-and-chrome "W" medallion, and flowing script badge mark this as a late-1950s production, when Westinghouse's industrial designers were softening the boxy prewar silhouette into something closer to a Detroit fender. Built at the Columbus, Ohio plant.

Inside, the original chrome-trimmed top freezer compartment retains its "WESTINGHOUSE" lettering, "Cold Storage Tray," and lower "HUMIDRAWER" — all intact and legible. Two brass-edged wire shelves, the pull-out cold storage tray, and the humidity drawer are present, along with four door shelves with retaining rails. Tested and fully functional; the compressor runs, the interior light works, and the unit cools as designed. A working postwar icebox with its color, chrome, and character all in place.

CONDITION

Very Good and fully functional. Tested and working — cools and runs as designed. Exterior shows age-appropriate wear with light scuffing, scattered surface stains, and some discoloration to the sides. Metal interior shelves show oxidation. The lower door shelf has a previous repair and is missing a small section; the freezer door liner is cracked on the inside. Top of cabinet shows residue from previously removed adhesive/material.
