Description

Apollo & Gemini Space Cover Collection — 12 Cacheted Event Covers, 1966–1970

A run of twelve cacheted commemorative covers spanning the manned spaceflight era, from the 1966 Apollo III (AS-202) spacecraft test through the Apollo 13 liftoff cover postmarked April 10, 1970. The group includes launch and milestone cachets for Apollo 8 (Borman, Lovell, Anders), Apollo 9-LEM 2, Apollo 10 (two covers — launch and lunar module descent), Apollo 11, Apollo 12 Moon Landing, and the First Manned Apollo (Apollo 7) launch. Most carry Cape Canaveral, FL 32920 machine cancels; several bear the gummed "In the beginning, God…" Apollo 8 commemorative seal.

Rounding out the lot are two NASA Local Post — Space City Cover Society first-day covers marking the 5th anniversary of the Gemini III flight, honoring Virgil I. Grissom and John Young, each affixed with the yellow NASA Local Post astronaut-portrait label and Houston, TX cancels dated March 23, 1970. A Goddard Space Flight Center cover with the purple Apollo NASA cachet completes the set. Cachet printers represented include Orbit Covers. The Apollo 12 cover carries a period ink notation, "F.D.C. Apollo 12 11-19-69.".

CONDITION

Very Good overall. Covers are clean and bright with crisp cachets and intact stamps and seals; light handling consistent with age. The Apollo 12 cover bears a hand-inked notation in the lower right corner. Stored in protective sleeves.
