1982 United Nations "Peaceful Uses of Outer Space" First Day Cover, Signed Kenneth H. Nordsieck
A UN-SM-3 commemorative cachet cover marking the United Nations' 1982 conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. The front carries the 20¢ United Nations stamp tied by a June 11, 1982 First Day of Issue postmark from the United Nations station, alongside a two-color silk-screened cachet of a suited astronaut against a globe with a rocket and red ascent plume. The lower-left bears the cachet maker's UN-SM-3 designation.
Boldly signed in black ink at lower right by Kenneth H. Nordsieck, dated 27 July 1985, with his self-inscription "Space Shuttle Astronomy Astronaut." Nordsieck was a payload specialist associated with the Spacelab astronomy program. The signature and inscription are hand-applied; the cover is unaddressed on the reverse, which is clean apart from minor handling.
Authenticity
NM Estate Auctions issues a Certificate of Authenticity with this cover, guaranteeing the signature of Kenneth H. Nordsieck as genuine.
CONDITION
Very Good. Cachet and stamp are bright with a crisp postmark strike; signature is dark and legible. Light surface handling and a faint impression to the paper; reverse clean and unaddressed.
