Daniel C. Brandenstein Signed NASA Astronaut Portrait — STS-8 Challenger Commander
An official NASA color photograph portrait of astronaut Daniel C. Brandenstein, inscribed and signed in black felt-tip across the upper right field: "To Brenda, Dan Brandenstein." The image presents Brandenstein in his blue flight suit before the American flag, a Space Shuttle stack model at his elbow, wearing the STS-8 Challenger mission patch (Truly, Gardner, Bluford, Thornton). The caption bar at the base reads "Daniel C. Brandenstein," and the verso carries the standard NASA / JSC public-affairs release text coded JSCIL-330.
Brandenstein flew four shuttle missions across his career, piloting STS-8 in 1983 — the first night launch and night landing of the Space Shuttle program — and later commanding STS-51-G, STS-32, and the maiden flight of Endeavour, STS-49. He went on to serve as Chief of the Astronaut Office. This lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Mesilla Valley Estate Sales.
CONDITION
Very Good. The signature and inscription are bold and clearly legible. Minor handling to the sheet edges; verso shows faint show-through of the recto image. No tears or major creasing noted.
