Louis XIII Style Diamond-Point Oak Fall-Front Cabinet with Working Key
You already know what you'd put in it. The fall-front drops open to reveal two shelves — one fixed, one adjustable — and suddenly this serious, dark-finished oak cabinet becomes the best-looking bar you've ever had. The geometry on that door is the pointe de diamant, the signature diamond-point motif of 17th-century French and Dutch Baroque cabinetwork, carved here with precision and framed in stepped molded surrounds. Below the door, a single dovetailed drawer for linens, bottle openers, whatever you're hiding. The whole thing sits on a molded plinth over turned bun feet, and the brass escutcheon still takes its original key. Lock it up when company leaves.
This is a 19th- to early 20th-century revival in the Louis XIII manner — not a period antique, but a quality workshop piece built when skilled Continental cabinetmakers were producing diamond-point case furniture for buyers who wanted the gravitas of the Baroque idiom in a genuinely livable object. The molding profiles are tight, the panel geometry is clean, and the finish has darkened to a warm, authoritative brown that no new piece achieves on purpose. The rear panel is secondary softwood with chalk notations from prior handling; a bore hole through the upper rear indicates a past repurposing — disclosed here because it matters to some buyers and not at all to others. For the buyer furnishing a library, study, or dining room bar cart replacement — this is the piece.
CONDITION
Good overall, structurally sturdy with honest signs of use. Scuffing and finish wear and loss present throughout, with corner separation and shrinkage cracks at the case framing consistent with age; the upper rear panel has a large bore hole from past repurposing. The dovetailed drawer is functional, the fall-front operates correctly, and the original key works.
