Hand-Woven Wool Kilim Rug, Stepped Diamond Medallion in Indigo & Terracotta
A hand-woven wool kilim worked in a slit-tapestry technique, the ivory field carrying a vertical chain of stepped diamond medallions in indigo, slate blue, soft green, terracotta, peach, and brown. Concentric stepped lozenges and hooked latch-hook motifs flank the central column, framed by a banded border of zigzag stepped lines and a solid indigo guard. The natural cream warp continues at both ends as knotted fringe. The weave is firm and even — 18 warps by 7 wefts — and the wool retains good body and a clean range of color. The attached dealer tag reads "Genuine Hand Woven Oriental Rug," typed as a Kilim, Rug No. 2555.
The stepped-diamond layout and earth-and-indigo palette draw on a flatweave tradition shared across kilim-producing regions, where the geometry is built entirely from the interlocking of colored wefts rather than applied pattern. The result reads cleanly from either side. Suited to use underfoot in a smaller setting, as a wall hanging, or layered over a larger floor covering.
CONDITION
Good overall. There is an old repair to the weave with a small area of refilled wool at one end border, and minor loss with knotting through the fringe at both ends. Colors remain strong and the body is sound.
