Hubert Herr Black Forest Cuckoo Clock — Chalet with Chimney Sweep, Squirrels & Fox
A Hubert Herr Black Forest cuckoo clock in the traditional carved chalet form, made in Triberg, Germany. The case takes the shape of a half-timbered alpine cottage with a shingled chimney, deeply pitched roof, and a wood-paneled façade hand-painted with sprays of pink, blue, and yellow Alpine flowers. A green louvered cuckoo door sits above the carved wood dial, which carries painted bone-tone Roman numerals, openwork gilt hands, and the MADE IN GERMANY mark at center. At the hour, a chimney sweep emerges from the chimney as part of the movement.
The forest tableau across the base is the highlight: hand-carved conifers flank the dial, with a family of squirrels gathered at left and a fox prowling the grass at right. Power comes from twin pinecone weights on chains, with a flower-painted pendant bob below. The movement plate is stamped HUBERT HERR / TRIBERG / GERMANY, "unadjusted, no jewels."
History
The Herr family has built cuckoo clocks in Triberg, in the heart of the Black Forest, since 1840 — one of the oldest continuously operating cuckoo clock houses in the region. Hand-carved chalet models in this style, with movable forest scenes and animal figures, remained a Triberg signature through the 20th century, assembled and finished in the same workshops that defined the form.
CONDITION
Excellent and fully functional. Tested and in perfect working order — an easy runner. Hand-painted detailing and carved figures are crisp throughout, with the movement, weights, and chains all present and intact.
