Afghan Tribal Kilim Flatweave — Stacked Diamond Medallions, Orange & Brown Wool
A hand-woven slit-tapestry kilim, attributed to Central Asian or Middle Eastern tribal production and consistent with Afghan or Persian regional work. The weft-faced structure and slit junctions at the color boundaries confirm true kilim technique, worked entirely in wool. The central field carries stacked hourglass and diamond medallions edged in serrated, flame-like projections, set against a saturated orange ground bordered by broad striped end panels with supplemental weft-float patterning. Ivory highlights and grey-green passages break the warm field, and the long, dark, coarse fringe — consistent with goat-hair warp ends — marks it as genuine tribal hand-production.
CONDITION
Fair. Overall finish wear and loss with visible soiling throughout; no remarkable damage to the field. Wear to the selvedge and a small approximately 1" worn section of the weave. Fringe is intact but coarse and irregular, consistent with age and use.
