Description

Specialized Expedition Sport 21-Speed Hardtail Mountain Bike, 22" Frame — Sun

A late-1990s/early-2000s Specialized Expedition Sport built on a Direct Drive A1 Premium Aluminum frame with a cro-mo rigid fork, finished in deep navy blue with the bold white-and-blue "Specialized" downtube graphic and "Expedition Sport" top-tube script. The 22" frame runs a 21-speed drivetrain with SRAM Grip Shift Max twist shifters, a Shimano Acera rear derailleur, and a Shimano FH-RM40 freehub. Rolling on 26 × 1.95 knobby tires (47-559 ISO) over alloy rims.

The Expedition Sport occupied Specialized's entry-to-mid-range hardtail slot through the late 1990s and into the early 2000s, positioned as a trail-capable commuter hybrid with upright geometry and wide gearing suited to mixed-terrain riding. This example was made for employees of Sun Microsystems — the Sun Microsystems promotional sticker on the seat tube is original to the build, not an aftermarket addition, marking it as a corporate-branded employee gift or incentive unit. A "Bike Doctor — Silver Spring, MD" shop decal on the chainstay documents prior service in the DC metro area. Fitted with a Lyberty saddle, a small Blackburn under-seat utility bag, a rear safety light, and a kickstand.

CONDITION

Good overall and ready to ride — tires hold air and the drivetrain is intact. Scuffing to the frame paint and rust/oxidation on the chain, rear cogs, and assorted hardware are consistent with age and outdoor use. The kickstand does not reliably stabilize the bike upright.
