Description

Mirta "Cabin in the Wood" Oil on Canvas — Forest Landscape, Framed

A weathered cabin sits half-swallowed by a dense stand of aspens and conifers, afternoon light breaking through the canopy in broad, luminous strokes. The artist — signing only as Mirta — works in an expressive, texture-rich oil technique, building the forest floor with loaded brushwork and palette-knife passages that give the undergrowth a nearly tactile depth. Warm ochres and harvest golds push against cool blue-greens in the sky and shadowed middle ground, the tonal contrast pulling the eye inward toward the darkened cabin and its sagging roofline. A bare, gnarled tree reaches across the clearing in the right foreground, its angular branches a deliberate counterpoint to the verticality of the surrounding trunks.

The painting is signed "Mirta" in the lower left in dark paint. The verso carries a framer's label from PIC Frame Fine Custom Framing & Art Center, 202 Tenth Street, Alamogordo, New Mexico — placing the work squarely within the southern New Mexico regional art circuit. The work is presented in a substantial carved and gilded ornate frame with linen liner mat, no glass — a presentation choice that lets the impasto surface read fully without interference from reflections.

CONDITION

Very Good overall; no remarkable damage to the canvas or paint layer. A minor chip to the frame molding is present at one corner — the carved ornamental surface has lost a small piece of gesso/composition at that point, with substrate exposed.
