Description

Arlene Zaloznik AZ Baskets Handwoven Cane Baskets, Pair

A matched pair of handwoven baskets by Arlene Zaloznik of AZ Baskets, El Paso, Texas, both worked in natural cane splint with banded courses of reddish-brown dyed weavers against the lighter ground. The larger rectangular basket carries twin carved ceramic glaze handles wrapped in green camouflage tape and ringed at the base, mounted through the upper rim. The smaller round basket sits on a turned wooden base and finishes in the same lashed cross-weave rim treatment that ties the two together.

Both pieces are signed "AZ" in ink on the wooden base and retain the maker's paper hang tag reading "AZ Baskets — Quality Handwoven Baskets by Arlene Zaloznik." The tight plaiting, finished rims, and consistent banding mark these as studio-grade work from a known borderland basketmaker. The pairing of a deeper handled carrier with a coordinating open bowl makes for a versatile two-basket storage set.

CONDITION

Very Good. No remarkable damage, no breaks or rips. Both baskets retain their original signatures and hang tags; weave is tight and rims are intact.
