Painted Wood Three-Tier Open Standing Shelf, Original Green Surface
A standing three-tier open shelf in solid wood, holding its original painted surface throughout — a muted ochre-green worn to bare wood and hints of an earlier green ground along the shelf edges and lower stretchers. Square corner posts rise to shaped, pointed finials, with a low three-bar gallery railing across the top tier. Three fixed shelves, each separated by 14 3/4" of clearance, sit on plain side stretchers.
The form is honest country furniture, built for utility and holding its age well: the paint has thinned to soft tan and copper-toned wear on the shelf surfaces where objects have sat and slid over decades. A piece like this reads as easily in a kitchen or entry as in a collector's assemblage of painted primitives, where the surface itself is the draw.
CONDITION
Fair with age-appropriate wear throughout. All original, with the painted surface worn to bare wood and copper tones across the shelf tops and edges. Structure is wobbly and one stretcher is absent.
