Set of Three Cherry Shaker-Style Tall Open Bookcases, Adjustable Shelving
A matched set of three tall open bookcases in American cherry and cherry veneer, built as custom or semi-custom millwork in the late 20th century. Each unit stands 81 inches with clean, unornamented lines in a transitional Shaker-adjacent idiom — flat face frames, a plain top rail, and a recessed plinth base. Interiors are fitted with full-height brass-tone metal shelf standards, giving each case five adjustable shelves that reposition on 11-inch increments. Construction pairs solid cherry face frames and exterior surfaces with cherry-veneered plywood backs and shelving; rear panels are unfinished birch, and the sides are left unfinished, consistent with built-in or wall-mounted installation. A handwritten notation on one back panel reads "CB 140 SMIN" — an installer or custom-shop job reference.
Sold together as a single lot, the three matched units make a practical run for a residential library, home office, or gallery wall — the kind of matched grouping that is genuinely hard to assemble after the fact. CONDITION
Good overall with wear consistent with use and prior installation. Notable issues include chipped and loose rails on the top shelves, a back-corner chip to one shelf, minor damage from a staple, two grommet holes, and normal wear at the points where units were fastened to a wall. Unfinished sides and birch rear panels are as-built.
