Hummel "Farewell" Second Edition Annual Bell, 1979, HUM 701 — Boxed
The 1979 M.I. Hummel Annual Bell from Goebel, the second issue in the bas-relief series. The cream bisque porcelain body carries a hand-painted relief drawn from the "Farewell" motif — a kerchiefed girl seated in the grass with her basket, one hand raised in a parting wave, poppies at her feet. The turned handle rises to a domed finial, and the front is molded with the red 1979 year date above the incised M.I. Hummel signature.
The interior is marked in blue Second Edition / Annual Bell / HUM 701 / Handcrafted / © Goebel / W. Germany 1978, with the original clapper and hanging ring intact. Goebel produced these bells as a yearly collector series through the late 1970s and into the 1980s, each with a fresh Hummel design and matching date. This example retains its original Goebel box (labeled catalog no. 50497) and the printed Collectors' Items / Sammler-Objekte insert.
CONDITION
Good, no damage. Paint and relief remain crisp; clapper and ring are present and functional. Original box shows shelf wear, edge splitting, a taped seam, and old ink pricing notations.
