Hand-Carved Elephant Djembe Drum with Woven Cover
A West African-style djembe with a body carved from a single solid piece of wood, showing the goblet form typical of the drum family. The upper bowl is finished in a warm two-tone burn, banded with a deep-carved interlace motif and tensioned with black nylon rope in the traditional Mali-weave pattern. The stem is deeply relief-carved with elephants moving through foliage above a stylized wave border at the foot — clean, dimensional cutting with strong depth to the undercuts.
The head is natural rawhide, roped down over the crown ring and drawn to the base ring by vertical runs with a twisted carrying handle to one side. A quilted, striped woven fabric cover is included, sized to slip over the head and shoulder of the drum for storage and transport. The drum is unmarked.
CONDITION
Very Good. No damage to the shell, head, or rope tensioning; carving remains crisp. The included fabric cover shows some wear with minor fraying at the edge seam.
