Folk Art Prickly Pear Cactus Sculpture in Weathered Iron
Sculpted entirely from cut and hammered iron sheet, this freestanding prickly pear stacks a series of teardrop pads into a branching form, each surface worked with a textured, striated finish and punched with tiny holes that read as the spines and areoles of the living plant. Two of the upper pads terminate in yellow-painted fruit buds, the only color notes against an otherwise rich, oxidized brown surface. The whole rises from a single central pad welded to an open circular strap-iron base.
Hand-fabricated garden sculpture of this kind sits comfortably in a courtyard, entry, or patio setting, where the weathered iron and honest welds carry the character of outdoor life. The piece is unmarked.
CONDITION
Good with signs of outdoor use and a visible, naturally developed patina throughout. Surface rust, minor pitting, and a small area of adhesive/label residue at the base. No remarkable damage; welds and joints remain sound.
