Continental Baroque-Style Carved Oak Draw-Leaf Dining Table & 4 Chairs
A five-piece dining set in the Continental Baroque manner, comprising a draw-leaf extension table and four high-back side chairs. The table stands on bold cabriole legs headed by carved acanthus and scroll knees, terminating in scrolled feet, with a burl-banded frieze framing a solid wood top. The draw-leaf mechanism is intended to extend the top with pull-out leaves at each end; those leaves are absent and several extension elements require restoration.
The four chairs share the table's carved vocabulary — shell-and-scroll crested rails over shaped upholstered back panels, carved center splats, and cabriole front legs joined by an H-stretcher. Seats and back panels are covered in a pale sage embossed velvet with brass nailhead trim. The set is solid wood throughout, with quartersawn oak apparent on the chair frames and a warmer walnut-toned surface on the table.
CONDITION
Fair. The table is missing its draw leaves and has missing extension elements requiring restoration; the underside shows exposed and incomplete slide hardware. Chairs show scattered frame wear and loose joinery; upholstery is worn with fabric loss and hanging webbing on at least two seats, and one seat has an exposed spring and detached trim.
