Dietz Fitzall Red Globe Tubular Barn Lantern, New York
That red globe stops you cold. Deep ruby, perfectly intact, it glows against the black-painted steel like a signal fire — which is exactly what it was. The R.E. Dietz Company of New York built this cold-blast tubular lantern to be seen: by a brakeman on a night rail siding, a road crew flagging a ditch, a farmhand crossing a dark field. The Dietz Fitzall globe — its raised oval mark still crisp — was engineered as a universal fit across the Dietz line, ruby glass thick enough to survive rough handling and bright enough to cut through weather.
Every piece of the working anatomy is here. The twin steel tubes frame the globe like a cage built to take a knock. The disc lid is cast with the DIETZ oval on top. The fount base is embossed — a Dietz burner designation for economy fuel performance. Fuel cap and thumb-wheel wick raiser are both present on the base. The wire bail swings freely for carry or hang.
CONDITION
Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Paint loss, surface scuffing, and light oxidation across the steel frame; the globe is bright and intact with no cracks or chips. Wick raiser and fuel cap present.
