Description

California License Plates, Mixed-Format Set of 6 — 2018–2019 Tags

California has issued more distinct plate formats, base colors, and specialty designations than virtually any other state — a function of population scale, the car culture that defines the state, and a DMV that has produced commemorative, occupational, and vehicle-class plates since the 1960s. This set of six pulls from four distinct formats in active circulation. The standout is 1KZN550, a blue-base plate from California's 1982-series redesign — the format collectors call the "blue series" — gold embossed characters on royal blue with the red-and-white AUG month tab and an orange 2018 registration sticker still affixed. Blue-series plates were issued through the early 1990s and are increasingly pulled from daily drivers; clean survivors with original color saturation hold consistent collector interest. The Historical Vehicle 7182 is the DMV's purpose-specific format for registered antique automobiles — red serif characters on white, no county designation, DEC 2018 tag.

The white-base script plates represent California's 1987-series format, still the current standard: the red California script header, navy embossed characters, and month/year registration tabs. 4DVF018 carries the bottom legend SESQUICENTENNIAL – 150 YEARS, a commemorative run issued for California's 150th anniversary of statehood in 1999 — these were produced in limited quantity and assigned sequentially, making them a recognized sub-variant. The lot includes a matched pair of 3LDN229: one with 2019 registration stickers, one clean with no stickers — a matching front/rear pair from the same vehicle. Rounding out the group is 4PP8410, a California Perm Trailer plate — the format issued for permanently registered trailers, exempt from annual renewal, with the red-stripe and red-script header that distinguishes it immediately from passenger stock.

CONDITION

Good overall with age-appropriate wear throughout. Denting and finish wear present across the group; the 3LDN229 stickered plate shows heavy accumulated grime and edge staining along the lower rail. The blue-base 1KZN550 has paint chipping at the edges and field scuffing but retains strong color. Registration stickers remain affixed on five of the six plates.
