Tiffin Franciscan Madeira Plum Footed Sherbet Cups, Set of 8
A complete set of eight footed sherbet cups in Tiffin Franciscan Madeira, Plum colorway — pressed glass in a deep amethyst-purple, produced by Tiffin Glass of Tiffin, Ohio. Each cup carries the pattern's signature lens-cut medallion band, a row of thumbprint ovals encircling the lower bowl and flowing down onto the sculpted pedestal foot. The glass reads translucent cranberry-purple through the bowl and nearly opaque black through the dense stem and base, giving the pieces their characteristic weight and depth of color.
Madeira was one of Tiffin's most commercially successful mid-century lines, produced c. 1967–1984, and Plum is the most sought-after of its colorways — consistently outpacing the green and amber variants among active collectors. The pieces carry no maker's mark, consistent with Tiffin's standard practice for production glass. A full run of eight is meaningfully harder to assemble than singles, which is where the value of this lot sits.
CONDITION
Excellent. No chips, cracks, or cloudiness — notable in pressed colored glass, where rim chips are the most common fault. Color remains rich and even across all eight cups.
