Kai Kristiansen for Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik Teak Cube Nesting Tables, Set of 3
Set of three nesting cube tables in solid teak, attributed to Kai Kristiansen for Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik as the Model 33, circa 1960s. Each unit reads as a hollow open cube — an exposed frame of clean, squared members — with a floating top panel that rests within the upper rails to create a cantilevered surface. The panels show well-figured teak grain with the warm, oiled tone characteristic of the material, and the construction is solid stock throughout rather than veneer over core. The frames step down in scale so the three units nest cleanly, then separate to serve independently.
The Model 33 became a recognized piece of Danish functionalist design: geometry doing the work, no applied ornament, every joint on view. Kristiansen worked prolifically across several Danish manufacturers from the 1950s into the 1970s, and this cube series is among the more graphic expressions of that catalog. As a complete trio the set is more useful — and less commonly found — than the pairs and singles that circulate; the units read equally as side tables, display pedestals, or a loose stacked arrangement. The set is unmarked; no maker's label or stamp is present, and the attribution rests on the documented form, proportions, and construction.
CONDITION
Very Good. Minor scuffing and gentle signs of use throughout, consistent with age. No remarkable damage; frames are sound and tops seat correctly.
