Description

Legends "Angakchina" Long-Haired Kachina Dancer, Mixed Media, No. 555/2500

A limited-edition Mixed Media sculpture from Legends of Simi Valley, California, depicting the Angakchina (Long-Haired Kachina) mid-dance atop a rocky outcrop. The figure combines copper, silver, and gold-tone finishes across the mask, kilt, sash, moccasins, and jewelry, with a turquoise-set cuff and feathered ruff framing the case mask. The rugged copper-finish base is edition-numbered 555/2500 and cast LEGENDS ©1990 USA, mounted on a green marble plinth with felt bottom. Artist-signed A. Pardell at the base.

The piece comes from Legends' Kachina Dancers Collection, a series that translated Hopi ceremonial figures into detailed cold-cast metal sculpture during the late 1980s and early 1990s. A partial maker's label on the underside references the Legends Collectors Society and the Simi Valley address. The Angakchina is among the most recognizable katsinam, associated with rainfall and the growing season, and the modeling here captures the streaming hair, feathered mask, and rattle-and-cornmeal gesture central to the dance.

CONDITION

Excellent. No remarkable damage. Finishes remain crisp with strong color contrast across the metallic surfaces, and the marble base is sound.
